The accused were given both suspended and real prison sentences of up to five years. Thus, more than 60 criminal proceedings ended in real conclusions. This was reported by the Opendatabot platform, which works with open government data.
For example, in September 2023, a person liable for military service passed a medical examination, received a summons, but did not come to the collection point. The court sentenced him to three years.
And in January of this year, courts handed down 120 sentences for evading military service. This is more than half of the total number of sentences under this article for the entire 2022.
It is noted that since 2014, Ukrainian courts have handed down 3,746 sentences to criminals, and a third of all cases occurred in 2023.
According to Opendatabot, the first peak of punishments for evaders occurred in 2015 – 1 thousand 596 sentences. Then the number of such cases decreased and in 2021 there were only eight cases brought to an end. However, already in the first year of a full-scale war there were 220 such cases.
Let us recall that the Deputy Head of the National Police, Maxim Tsutskiridze, stated that citizens who received a suspended sentence are subject to mobilization in the future. However, if a Ukrainian refuses to go to war again, he will receive a real sentence.
