The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of March 8, 15 drones were shot down over the Volgograd region. two of them allegedly fell on the territory of military unit 57229/51 in the village of Kotluban. Despite the fact that the incident occurred on March 8, it became known only today. The ASTRA Telegram channel reported this on March 11.
It is noted that one of the UAVs exploded after the fall. Previously, allegedly “no one was hurt.” The public has no information about the destruction on the territory of the arsenal.
According to the Telegram channel, military unit No. 57229/51 is a large arsenal for the complex storage of Russian ammunition. The Wikimapia service indicates that the arsenal of the Main Directorate of Rocket Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the Russian Ministry of Defense is located here.
It is also reported that this is not the first attack on an ammunition depot. In 2023, on November 24, there was already a drone crash on the territory of this military unit. And on November 16 last year, a warehouse with ammunition for small arms burned down due to a UAV hit.
Let us remind you that on March 9, drones hit an aircraft factory in the Russian Taganrog. Hangars where aircraft based on Tu-95 and Il-76 were being assembled were attacked. The network also suggested that a previously damaged DRLV A-50 aircraft could have been parked in this hangar for repairs.
