The Minister of Defense of Italy noted the meeting of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and expressed the hope that thanks to these efforts progress will be achieved in the negotiations.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto opposes sending Western troops to Ukraine, saying it would interfere with diplomacy.
“The introduction of troops in Ukraine means a step towards unilateral escalation, which will cross the path of diplomacy. There is no point in putting such considerations now after two years of war,” said Crosetto in a interview with La Stampa.
According to him, France and Poland, excluding the sending of troops to Ukraine, can speak on their own behalf, and not on behalf of NATO, which “formally and willingly stayed away from the war.”
He added that over the year, Western countries reached a level of production that would help Ukraine supply weapons, but admitted that it was still lower than Russia.
“We must provide all possible support to Kyiv without backing down, but we must think about helping Ukrainians regain their freedom, territory and security in another way: by activating diplomatic channels with more that strength and determination,” Crosetto said.
The Minister of Defense of Italy noted the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and expressed hope that progress will be achieved thanks to these efforts.
Let’s remember that French President Emmanuel Macron said last week that “the possible sending of Western troops to Ukraine cannot be ruled out.” He then added that his resounding words were well thought out.
