The military medical commission declared the general unfit for service in the Ukrainian army. After being relieved of his post, the President placed Zaluzhny at the disposal of the Minister of Defense. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov did not offer any significant military position adequate to Zaluzhny’s level of training and experience, just as President Zelensky did not offer it earlier. ZN.UA reported this on March 9, citing sources.
It is noted that under these conditions, the ex-commander-in-chief decided to resign from military service in order to have the opportunity and right to do something else. The publication notes that the editors have no information about whether Umerov signed the report after Zelensky’s statement about his intention to send Zaluzhny as Ukrainian ambassador to the UK.
The article states that the several-week delay in resolving the issue was due to the fact that after the adoption of the law with a new list of military ranks, the corresponding change in the regulatory framework was not completed. Therefore, now there is no clear clarity who should dismiss Zaluzhny with the rank of general from military service – the Minister of Defense by his order or the President by his decree, as generals of the Ukrainian army were dismissed before.
Let us recall that on March 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky agreed on the candidacy of former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
