Ukraine has prospects of reaching an agreement with Poland on unblocking the border without a fight, but everything depends on the political will of the officials. The Polish government itself must show a corresponding desire. The example of Romania shows that implementing an effective export authorization model is not an impossible task. This was said by the Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis in an interview with UNIAN, published on Saturday, February 9.
Romania’s transit roads are also one of the main roads in the context of the EU Solidarity Road, which includes Poland. However, thanks to the effective use of this model, the country has avoided import increases in Romanian markets. That is, the Ukrainian grain did not create a destabilizing effect there, the official emphasized.
He said that there are ways to solve this problem, “but it is necessary that the government of the country shows the desire to solve it.”
“Poland has already banned the import of Ukrainian grain, so what are the farmers protesting there?” Dombrovskis asked a rhetorical question.
The European Commission is now trying to hold a strategic dialogue with them, they have taken some short-term steps; work in this direction continues, the official concluded.
As we have already written, Lithuania denies the information that Ukrainian grain is exported to the country in Poland.
In addition, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte said that the blockade of the Lithuanian-Polish border by Polish farmers is similar to the Russian Federation’s attempts to create a conflict between the two allies of Ukraine.
