One of the main requirements for the post of ambassador to Britain is an understanding of the military context. Additionally, the former commander-in-chief has a diploma in International Relations.
Valery Zaluzhny has the “soul” to perform the duties of a diplomat. This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said after several conversations with the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The head of the Foreign Ministry made this statement during a telethon, commenting on the appointment of Zaluzhny as ambassador to Britain.
“At the same time, he (Valery Zaluzhny – ed.) has a master’s degree in International Relations from 2020. Therefore, I think this is a logical step. And I, as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, am interested in the very strong post in London,” – said Kuleba.
In addition, according to him, President Vladimir Zelensky considered all the factors and decided that Zaluzhny was the best candidate for this post.
“This is a strengthening. Therefore, it is a decision that meets both the interests of Ukrainian diplomacy and the interests of Zaluzhny, and most importantly, the interests of Ukraine,” explained Kuleba.
The minister added that the position of ambassador to the United Kingdom requires someone who understands the “military context.”
“After all, Great Britain is a strategic partner and one of the leading countries in military matters and assistance to Ukraine. It is a state that has its own strategy not only for war on land, but also at sea. Therefore , the new ambassador must have a deep military background,” – said Kuleba.
He also mentioned that the president has been looking for a strong candidate for the post of ambassador to London for a long time.
As reported, Zelensky agreed with the candidacy of Valery Zaluzhny for the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a corresponding request to the British side for the agreement. Zaluzhny’s desire to work in the diplomatic direction, Zelensky said, noting that Ukraine’s alliance with Britain should only be strengthened.
Let’s recall that on February 8, Zelensky signed orders releasing Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
