The Security Service of Ukraine documented the subversive activities of the mitred archpriest of the Cherkassy diocese of the UOC-MP, justifying the armed aggression of Russia. On his Facebook page, he denied the war crimes of the enemy and glorified the soldiers of the aggressor country. In addition, he spread pro-Kremlin narratives with which he tried to discredit members of the defense forces. The SBU press center reported this on March 6.
In particular, the cleric accused Ukrainian defenders of preparing military provocations in Odessa and called the fighters of the Azov special forces “Nazis.” The defendant supplemented his messages with reposts with hostile slogans, photographs and videos from pro-Kremlin Internet resources.
During searches, law enforcement officers found forbidden symbols and a mobile phone from which he disseminated anti-Ukrainian propaganda. The archpriest of the UOC-MP has already been informed of suspicion under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 436-2 (justification of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The cleric faces up to eight years in prison and confiscation of property.
Let us recall that on March 5, the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt in the second reading and in general bill No. 8371 on the ban on religious organizations associated with Russia. This document may terminate the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
