Hungarian leader Tamas Szuek approved a protocol approving Sweden’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
The new President of Hungary, Tamas Szuek, approved the ratification of Sweden’s application to join NATO. This was reported by Reuters on Tuesday, March 5.
Now the document must be sent to Washington. Sweden’s membership will end after all ratification documents are deposited with the US State Department and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposes to join the North Atlantic Treaty.
Hungary remained the last country not to ratify Sweden’s bid to join NATO in 2022. On February 26, the Hungarian parliament approved ratifying Sweden’s application.
Previously, the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban Fidesz boycotting Sweden’s NATO membership vote. However, then the political forces decided to approve the ratification of Sweden’s application.
