On Tuesday, March 5, the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt in the second reading and as a whole bill No. 8371 on the ban on religious organizations associated with Russia. This document may terminate the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine. Committee member Vladimir Vyatrovich reported this on Facebook.
According to him, the committee members supported the bill unanimously. The text of the document itself has become much stronger compared to the government version supported in the first reading. It stipulates that the activities of the churches of the aggressor country will be terminated according to a clear procedure, which will include research, an order to comply with the law and an injunction.
Vyatrovich emphasized that the Russian Orthodox Church and its affiliated structures will not be able to use state and municipal property, and the transition of communities to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will be significantly simplified.
Let us recall that on October 19, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a bill whose main purpose is to limit the activities of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine. After that, more than a thousand amendments were submitted to the draft law.
