Politico says that, according to Western intelligence, the head of the Serbian military trade union, Novica Antic, is an “agent of influence” of Russia.
Russian intelligence uses a Serbian agent to infiltrate EU institutions and spread pro-Kremlin theses about invading Ukraine. Representatives of Western intelligence said this at a briefing, the American publication Politico reported on Tuesday, March 5.
The media said that in October 2023, Serbian citizen Novica Antic – an active “agent of influence”, according to the documents, who clearly worked closely with the Russian intelligence services – held meetings with members of the European Parliament. Among them are German Green Party lawmaker Viola von Cramon-Taubadel, Italian Socialist Democrats lawmaker Alessandra Moretti and Slovak member of the European People’s Party conservative group Vladimir Bilcsik.
The head of the Serbian Military Trade Union, Antonjic, also met with representatives of the EUROMIL and EPSU trade unions, which represent the interests of military personnel and civil service workers in the EU, respectively.
Intelligence officials believe Antic is an active “agent of influence” for the FSB. In particular, he works closely with FSB officer Vyacheslav Kalinin and the editor-in-chief of Veteran News, a media site specializing in news for military veterans.
Russia uses Serbia as a springboard for influence operations aimed at undermining pro-European and pro-NATO sentiment domestically, as well as in the EU.
As we have already written, a branch of the public organization Other Ukraine, created by the godfather of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Viktor Medvedchuk, who was exchanged for a Ukrainian prisoner, is registered in Serbia. It is led by the candidate for the Serbian parliament and supporter of Russian aggression, Dragan Stanojevic.
