The officials’ conversation concerned the theoretical possibilities of Ukraine using the German Taurus missiles.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius commented on the publication by Russian propagandists of an intercepted telephone conversation between German officials about the likely transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine and a -attack on the Crimean bridge, reports Bild.
Pistorius said Vladimir Putin was waging an “information war” against Germany. According to him, this is a “hybrid attack” by Russia, whose purpose is to “blow up the resolution.” The minister noted that in the published recording, officials discussed various scenarios, but this does not mean a “green light” for the transfer of Taurus missiles to Kyiv. He called Moscow’s claim that the Bundeswehr was allegedly planning an attack on Crimea an “outrageous lie.”
Boris Pistorius urged not to fall for “Putin’s tricks” and consider what happened in a wider context: it is no coincidence that Russia released the recording at the end of a week full of critical event from the Kremlin’s perspective, including the funeral of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
At the same time, the minister immediately ordered a full investigation into the incident to clarify the powers of the officials and the correctness of the choice of means of communication – the WebEx platform. The first test results will be available next week.
According to him, in addition to the published recording of the conversation between Bundeswehr officers, he is currently not aware of other information leaks.
Earlier, Russian propagandists outlined the contents of a conversation between the German Air Force Inspector General Ingo Gerharz and three officials about the details of the possible delivery to Ukraine and the potential use of Taurus missiles. This caused a scandal in German politics.
Let’s remember that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he is not transferring Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine because they could hit targets in Moscow. It has also been reported that the British government is privately trying to persuade its German counterparts to move Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
