The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, believes that the two countries cannot “resolve the Franco-German dispute.”
Tensions between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron are causing concern among German Social Democrats. In their opinion, such a dispute is dangerous for Ukraine. This is what the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, reported the German publication Spiegel.
“We cannot afford a Franco-German dispute. It is dangerous for Ukraine,” said Michael Roth
Representatives of the Social Democratic Party, led by Olaf Scholz, expect the chancellor and the French president to join forces.
“Ukraine now needs pragmatic, emergency aid, especially ammunition and air defense,” the politician said.
German-French relations have reached their lowest point, especially after the Paris summit, the media said.
Some German politicians believe that France lacks the economic strength to become a European leader and that only Germany can do so. Therefore, Scholz should be the leader, as he did in the dispute with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
In the past, the media wrote that Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz do not get along with each other and this could disrupt Ukraine.
Olaf Scholz rejected the idea of sending NATO and EU troops to Ukraine.
