The head of the Italian government said that during the leadership of the G7 country he will pursue a policy of restoring the international order, which should ensure the future of Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden on Friday, March 1, met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Maloney. The leaders exchanged views on Italy’s goals during its presidency of the G7, including “firm support for Ukraine,” the White House said.

It was noted that during the meeting, the leaders exchanged views on Italy’s prospects during its vote in the G7. This includes continued support for Ukraine, sustainable development, food and energy security, migration, as well as cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and continued joint efforts in support of the Global Infrastructure and Investment Partnership.

Biden, along with Maloney, reaffirmed Ukraine’s unwavering support in resisting Russian aggression. The President praised Maloney’s leadership role in the G7 and European Union in boosting aid to Ukraine.

“We plan above all to ensure an international order based on rules that protect the freedom and ensure the future of Ukraine,” said Meloni.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Israel’s right to self-defense under international law and discussed the importance of helping the Gaza Strip amid the offensive. Biden said the United States would release humanitarian aid to Gaza residents.

In addition, the leaders discussed the upcoming G7 leaders’ summit in Puglia and the NATO summit in Washington. They noted the vital importance of the transatlantic relationship and its leading role in addressing the challenges.

We remind you that last week Ukraine and Italy signed a security agreement.
