Peter Szijjártó said that Budapest plans to invest the money in “creating conditions to improve the capabilities of the Chadian Armed Forces.”
In Hungary, they came to the conclusion that the country will not give $ 18 million for weapons for neighboring Ukraine, but would rather transfer this money to the armed forces of the African country of Chad. This was stated by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó in a press conference.
“It was decided to use the allocated $18 million to strengthen security in Chad, to establish a new educational institution in Chad for the training of army officers, and to improve the capabilities of the Chadian Armed Forces,” said Hungarian official.
Budapest decided to refuse to allocate funds to Ukraine, because they could be used to pay for weapons for Ukraine, explained the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
According to him, the Hungarian authorities are allegedly promoting a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine, so the money will be used to maintain security and stability in Chad.
Let’s remember that Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary, which from July 1 will lead the Council of the European Union on a rotational basis, will lobby for Georgia and Moldova to join the EU, but will not do it for Ukraine. He said accession negotiations would focus on the “real performance” of candidate countries rather than “political pressure.”
It should be noted that a member of the European Parliament has initiated a petition to strip Hungary of its voting rights in the EU Council. The petition was supported by 120 MEPs from different political groups and several member states.
