The G7 and the EU have frozen around 300 billion euros of Russian funds. Their estimated profitability is around three billion euros per year.
Proceeds from Russia’s frozen assets should be used to arm Ukraine. This is what Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen told the Finnish broadcaster Yle.
Valtonen believes that the EU and the US can work together to implement this idea.
As you know, the G7 and the EU have frozen about 300 billion euros of Russian funds. Their estimated profitability is around three billion euros per year.
“These funds can be used for weapons, for the supply of defense equipment and, in the long term, for the restoration of Ukraine,” said Valtonen.
He added that this is a rather complicated legal issue.
“One of the main values in the West is the inviolability of private property. Although not every citizen will understand why we cannot simply take and appropriate the funds of a neighboring state that is carrying out a brutal aggressive war, without following any international norms. But we must still abide by our principles,” he said.
We remind you that Finland allows its weapons to be used for strikes against the Russian Federation.
It has also been reported that Finland will increase aid to Ukraine.
