Illinois became the third state where the former president was not allowed to vote. The judge relied heavily on the prior opinion of the Colorado Supreme Court.
Former US President Donald Trump was eliminated from the Republican primary ballot in Illinois. This decision was made by a state judge based on the so-called “sedition ban” provided by the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, CNN reports.
It was noted that Trump has a short time to file an appeal.
Wednesday’s surprise decision comes as a similar anti-Trump case from Colorado is pending before the US Supreme Court, which is expected to reject arguments that Trump is barred from serving as president.
Cook Circuit Judge Tracy Porter relied heavily on the Colorado Supreme Court’s earlier opinion, calling Colorado’s reasoning “compelling.”
Illinois became the third state to remove Trump from the ballot, following Colorado and Maine. But those decisions have been put on hold pending an appeal of the Colorado case to the US Supreme Court
We remind you that on Wednesday it was also learned that the US Supreme Court will consider the case of Trump’s “immunity”.
