In November, Mitch McConnell will leave his party seat, but will remain a senator until the end of his term.
Senator Mitch McConnell, known for his support for Ukraine, said that in November he will end his career as the leader of the Republican Party in the upper house of the US Congress. He said this on Wednesday, February 28, Ukrinform reports.
“One of the most underrated talents in life is knowing when it’s time to move on to the next chapter of your life. That’s why I stand before you today to say that this phrase that leads to Senate Republicans is my last,” McConnell said.
The senator assured that he will actively work in his post until the election of the president and members of Congress, which will take place in November.
At the same time, according to McConnell, he plans to finish his term as a senator until January 2027.
McConnell is the longest-serving Republican leader of any party. Until 2023, the leadership here belongs to Senator Mike Manfield, who led the Democratic Party.
Let’s remember that on Tuesday, McConnell, along with other congressional leaders, took part in a meeting with President Joe Biden to unblock aid to Ukraine.
And at the end of January, McConnell supported the Ukraine aid bill, saying that military support for Ukraine is in the US national interest.
