In France, they explained what Macron meant when he talked about possibly sending allied troops to Ukraine.
Troops from Western countries, in the event of a possible deployment to Ukraine, proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron, will not participate in the conflict. This is what French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournet said, Reuters reports.
The Foreign Minister said that Paris should consider “new actions in support of Ukraine.”
“They must meet specific needs, I mean, in particular, mine clearance, cyber defense, weapons production locally, on Ukrainian territory,” the minister said.
Sejournet emphasized that some such actions may require the presence of Western military personnel on Ukrainian territory, but without participation in hostilities.
“Nothing can be denied. This is and remains the position of the president today,” the French Foreign Minister emphasized.
We remind you that French President Emmanuel Macron said that sending Western military personnel to Ukraine in the future cannot be abandoned.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg assured that there are currently no plans to station European troops on Ukrainian territory.
The Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Italy have said they are not considering sending troops to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also rejected the idea of sending NATO and EU troops to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the appearance of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine would lead to a direct conflict between the Alliance and Russia.
