The American president began a meeting with congressional leaders to unblock aid to Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden on Tuesday, February 27, met with congressional leaders at the White House. Politicians will discuss the issues of aid to Ukraine. CNN reported it.
The meeting was attended by Democratic Majority Leader of the US Senate Chuck Schumer and Republican Minority Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House of Representatives Republican Mike Johnson and Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Biden said he wanted to discuss expanding temporary funding for the federal government to avoid a partial shutdown from March 1, as well as Ukraine’s “urgent need” for American aid.
“I think the consequences of our inaction regarding Ukraine every day are dire. I have talked about this with our partners in the Group of Seven. They are very concerned,” the American president said.
In addition, meeting participants will discuss the approval of military aid to Israel and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, and other threats to the Middle East, particularly from Iran.
Let’s recall that on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine, mainly for military aid. But the Senate’s decision to appropriate the money is not enough – the bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.
On February 15, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson ended the work week early and announced a nearly two-week recess without considering a bill to help allies. The issue could now come before Congress in mid-March.
