Russian authorities have threatened direct conflict with NATO if the Alliance sends troops to Ukraine.
Russia reacted to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement about the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov threatened a retaliatory “direct confrontation” between the Russian Federation and NATO. RosSMI reported this on Tuesday, February 27.
According to him, Moscow knows that the topic of sending foreign military personnel to Ukraine has been discussed in Europe.
“If this happens, we will have to talk not about the possibility, but about the inevitability of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO,” said the Russian presidential spokesman.
Peskov also noted that the discussion in the West about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine is “an important and new element.”
We remind you that French President Emmanuel Macron said that sending Western military personnel to Ukraine in the future cannot be abandoned.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said there are currently no plans to deploy European troops to Ukraine.
The Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Italy have said they are not considering sending troops to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also rejected the idea of sending NATO and EU troops to Ukraine.
