In dealing with Ukraine, the Polish Prime Minister sees “a critical moment” that must be resolved taking into account the interests of all parties.
A clash between Ukraine and Poland over the grain issue would be “the biggest idiocy in the history” of relations between the two countries. This is what Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday, February 26.
According to the politician, there is currently no deficit in Polish-Ukrainian relations, but there is a “critical moment” regarding the duty-free export of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland and other European Union countries.
Maintaining the current Ukrainian export rules is unacceptable for hundreds of thousands of farmers, Tusk said.
“I really hope for understanding. I hope that Ukrainian politicians will refuse unnecessary emotional comments. It is clear that this is a difficult moment, we must find a solution, but not one that will separate us. If we fight now and not find a solution to this matter, it would be the greatest stupidity in the history of our people,” said the Polish Prime Minister.
Let us remind you that the protests of Polish farmers continue on the Ukrainian border. Protest participants systematically spread Ukrainian agricultural products. The main demand of the protesters is a ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.
Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal proposed a five-step “Plan of Understanding” for Poland, designed to unblock the border.
