The Ombudsman reported another war crime by the Russians and published footage of the execution that took place on Saturday.
On Saturday, February 24, Russian invaders shot another group of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Bakhmut district. This was reported by Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets.
According to him, the exact number of Ukrainians killed by the Russians in this episode is unknown, but there were at least seven. These are the servicemen of the SDF (Ukrainian Defense Forces – ed.).”
“Such killing is a war crime! We also know from which military unit of the Russian army the soldiers who mercilessly killed Ukrainians came from,” the ombudsman wrote.
A drone video published by Lubinets shows several Ukrainian soldiers surrendering. The footage clearly shows that the Ukrainians raised their hands, showing that they were unarmed and non-threatening.
According to Lubinets, this time he will immediately send official letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross so that these organizations record and publicly recognize the fact of the killing of Ukrainian prisoners by the Russian military.
Later, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the event took place during an attack on Ukrainian positions between the villages of Ivanovskoye and Khromovo, Donetsk region.
“The recording from the drone camera shows that the representatives of the Russian Armed Forces first ordered our defenders to leave the trench. After collecting all the defenders in one place and moving a few meters away, the enemy fired a machine-gun at them. The military of the aggressor state deliberately finished off the wounded and unarmed “Ukrainian soldiers, ignoring the standards of international humanitarian law,” commented the OG.
Under the procedural leadership of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation was launched into violation of the laws and customs of war, including premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In total, 19 criminal proceedings are currently being investigated in Ukraine regarding the killing of 45 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
We remind you that on February 18, the Russians shot three Ukrainian prisoners near the village of Robotino, Zaporozhye region.
And in December, the prosecutor’s office began an investigation into the shooting by Russians of three Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporozhye region, the video of which was published online.
