Now there are six more reconnaissance aircraft left in service with the army of the Russian Federation. On February 25, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, spoke about this during a conversation with journalists at the “Ukraine. The year is 2024.”
Another A-50 will “fall,” and round-the-clock duty will have to be stopped,” he noted, but refused to disclose information about what weapon was used to shoot down the DRLV.
Also, Budanov, answering the question whether the operation was being prepared before February 24, noted: “we were looking for the plane, not the date.”
Let us recall that on February 23, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian A-50 reconnaissance aircraft over the Sea of Azov. The entire crew of 10 people died.
This is the second long-range radar detection aircraft destroyed by the Defense Forces since the start of 2024.
Each such aircraft costs from 350 to 500 million dollars, depending on the modification. By the beginning of the invasion, the Russian Federation had ten A-50s: two were shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces this year, another was damaged by Belarusian partisans in February 2023.
