For money, scammers offer to “add” prisoners of war to exchange lists or “speed up” the exchange process of a particular serviceman, using broken pages of officers. Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets announced this on Saturday, February 24.
“To do this, they even hacked the pages of government officials on social networks. Unfortunately, scammers recently destroyed the accounts of employees of the Ombudsman’s Office. The bad guys, allegedly on behalf of these employees, sent a request to lend a certain amount of money to the citizens they contacted based on their appeals to the Ombudsman’s Secretariat Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights,” said the message.
Lubinets calls on citizens to be cautious and not to believe any request for the exchange or release of prisoners, especially if they involve money.
“I remember that the employees of our institute faithfully fulfilled their official duties under martial law and never made any demands on applicants, including those of a financial nature. I appealed to the relatives -children of prisoners of war: be careful and remember – attackers can come up with new ways to profit from human misery,” the ombudsman emphasized.
In addition, Lubinets warned scammers against such actions, noting that it will be punished in accordance with the law of Ukraine.
We would like to remind you that in Ukraine two citizens were exposed and detained for extorting funds from relatives of prisoners of war for the alleged return of their relatives.
