So far this is the third loss of the A-50. Prior to this, a similar aircraft was disabled by Belarusian partisans at the Machulishchi airbase in February 2023, and on January 14, 2024, the Air Force shot down the A-50 and Il-22 aircraft.
The A-50 is a Russian long-range radar detection and control aircraft, thanks to which Russia controls the attacks of its strike aircraft and detects Ukrainian aircraft in the sky.
