Mark Rutte may become the new Secretary General of NATO – his candidacy was supported by the United States and Britain.

    .

The BBC writes about this on February 22.

The 31 countries that are members of NATO have not yet been able to agree on who should become the bloc’s secretary general after the current leader, Jens Stoltenberg, who has universal respect. His almost ten-year sentence was extended several times.

It is expected that NATO will confirm the name of the new Secretary General at the anniversary summit in Washington, which will take place this summer and will take place in the year of the bloc’s 75th anniversary.

Although all such decisions are made behind closed doors, most NATO members, including the United States, support Mark Rutte.

The UK was the last to speak out in favor of it – a source in the Foreign Office said that it would do the job well.

However, there may be those who doubt it.

Rutte expressed criticism of some of the actions of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who, unlike the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, does not support Ukraine and is slow to ratify Sweden’s application to join NATO.

Rutte also has experience with Donald Trump, who is again trying to become US president and is questioning NATO’s core principles.

Rutte recently called on European leaders to stop making negative comments about Trump amid increased military spending.
