The border situation also increases threats to the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian army at the front, the president noted.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky appealed to Polish authorities and the European Union amid mass protests by Polish farmers who have imposed a blockade on the Ukrainian border. The corresponding video was published by the press service of the head of state on Wednesday, February 1.
According to Zelensky, he ordered the Ukrainian government to go to the border with Poland in the near future, especially before February 24, “because this blockade of the border, unfortunately, increases the threats to give of arms to our men in front.”
“And I ask you, Donald, Mr. Prime Minister (Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, – ed.), to also go to the border. Andrzej (Duda, – ed.), Mr. President, I ask you to support this dialogue. This national security. We must not postpone it. The coming days give us the opportunity to do it,” the president said.
He emphasized that he is also ready to be at the border next to Ukrainian officials.
“I want to appeal now to the European Commission: it is necessary to maintain unity in Europe. This is the main interest of the European Union. Therefore, Ukraine appealed to the European Commission so that a representative of the European Commission can take part in the meeting this – also for common interests and to stop political manipulation,” added Zelensky.
Also, the President of Ukraine addressed the citizens of Poland in Polish: “Moscow is enough in our lands. There are enough disputes. We cannot embarrass each other, we cannot embarrass any of Ukrainian or Polish farmers. We need unity. We need solutions – between us, Ukraine and Poland, and at the level of the whole of Europe.”
We remind you that on February 20, Polish farmers staged mass protests and blocked six checkpoints on the Ukrainian border. It was also learned that they intend to extend the promo until April.
The main demands of the protesters are a ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, as well as a rejection of the EU’s Green Deal.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zelensky promised “swift measures” in response to the situation on the Polish border.
