Compensation to homeowners for the housing of Ukrainians was also extended. However, the amounts paid have decreased.
Slovakia has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians for one year – until March 4, 2025. The government adopted the corresponding resolution on Wednesday, February 21, writes novyny.sme.sk.
Temporary asylum status gives the right to work on the territory of Slovakia, have access to medical care and housing, the right to financial assistance if necessary, receive secondary and higher education, and attend schools.
At the same time, compensation to homeowners for housing Ukrainians has been extended until June 30, 2024. But the payment amounts will be reduced.
From March 1, 2024, the amount of compensation to owners of apartments and houses will be 5 euros per day, regardless of the age of the refugees. Before this, Ukrainians under the age of 15 were paid 5 euros per day for housing, and for older people – 10 euros.
The maximum amount of compensation to the owner can be:
-
1-room apartment – 390 euros;
-
2-room – 540 euros;
-
3-room – 720 euros;
-
4 or more rooms – 900 euros.
“It is desirable that emigrants who wish to stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic have the motivation to integrate into ordinary life and participate in providing the basic needs of life using their own resources,” the resolution said.
We would like to remind you that the former President of Poland Andrzej Duda signed a law extending the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland until June 30.
Almost two-thirds of Ukrainian refugees want to return home in the future, but overall the proportion of people with such intentions has fallen over the year, according to the UN.
