New restrictions against the aggressor country are planned to be announced on Friday, February 23. US President Joe Biden issued a corresponding decree. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications of the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, AFP reports.
At President Biden’s direction, we will announce a large package of sanctions this Friday to hold Russia accountable for what happened to Navalny,” he said.
According to AFP, the announcement of this package of sanctions also comes on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
Let us recall that on February 16, the department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug announced the death of Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny in the correctional colony where he was serving his sentence.
On the same day, US President Joe Biden said that US President Joe Biden on February 16 said that even in prison, Navalny continued to tell the truth and noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was responsible for the death of the oppositionist.
In the summer of 2021, Biden met with Putin and after the meeting said that he made it clear to him that if Navalny died in the colony, the consequences would be “devastating” for Russia.
