The overwhelming majority of the money will go specifically to the Ukrainian people, because in Ukraine 14.6 million people need humanitarian aid. This is about providing emergency assistance, including access to basic needs such as shelter, protection services, clean water, education and health care. This is reported on the website of the European Commission.
Brussels emphasized that the EU’s humanitarian strategy in Ukraine today is based on the protection of war-affected people, especially those living near the front-line zones.
The European Commission noted that targeted enemy attacks on energy infrastructure, hospitals, schools and power grids are seriously hampering people’s access to basic services.
With each new shelling, more and more Ukrainians are left homeless and in need of help and shelter in freezing conditions, the report says.
Let us remind you that on February 19 it became known that Japan will provide benefits worth $12.1 billion to Ukraine. The assistance package will include, in particular, a grant worth 4.7 billion, which Ukraine will receive by the end of February.
