Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh spoke about this.
Investigators told Alexei’s lawyers and mother that they would not release the body. Some kind of “chemical examination” will be carried out on him for another 14 days (!)

The Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation reported on February 16 that Russian politician Alexei Navalny died in a colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
On the morning of February 17, Navalny’s mother arrived at Colony No. 3 in Kharpi and was given a message about his death. The colony’s leadership reported that Navalny’s body is in the Salekhard morgue. When the politician’s mother arrived there, she was told that there was no body.
Yarmysh said that the Investigative Committee of Russia refused to release the body to relatives until the verification was completed. As forensic expert Olga Fateeva said, investigative bodies sometimes do not allow the release of a body for years.
Navalny’s body is probably in the morgue of the Salekhard district clinical hospital, Novaya Gazeta Europe wrote, citing a source. Navalny’s body was taken to the morgue on the evening of February 16.
