President Vladimir Zelensky visited the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kupyansky direction in the Kharkov region, where he presented awards to the defenders. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Monday, February 19.
It is indicated that the president visited the battalion command post of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great, which carries out combat missions to defend Kupyansk.
Zelensky heard a report from the brigade commander, Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Trubnikov, on the operational situation in the relevant sector of the front. They discussed providing units with equipment, ammunition and other military needs.
The head of state spoke to the fighters and gave awards.
“I am glad to be here today – to see you, congratulate you, thank you on behalf of all Ukrainians, from all over Ukraine, for doing such a great job every day, for the defense of the state, our families, freedom, our sovereignty. I have confidence in you. I wish you good health, take care of yourself and your fellow humans. This is very important. I wish you all victory,” the president said.
In particular, Zelensky awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and awarded the Order of the Golden Star to the commander of the 95th separate air assault brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel Oleg Apostol. The head of state also presented the Presidential Cross of Military Merit award to Colonel Alexander Lutsenko. In addition, the military received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III degree and For Courage, II-III degree.
“For the safety of the soldiers, Vladimir Zelensky gave some of the awards to the commanders for the performance in the field of service,” the message said.
Earlier, the media said that the Russians plan to capture Kupyansk before March, when the presidential elections in the Russian Federation will be held. 500 Russian tanks, more than 600 combat vehicles, hundreds of howitzers and 40 thousand soldiers are concentrated in this direction.
