After the capture of the regional center, he supported the Russian invaders and entered the inner circle of Gauleiter Saldo, becoming his confessor. The SBU press center reported this today, February 19.
According to the investigation, Archimandrite:
- regularly invited Saldo to worship in the temple;
- during sermons, he blessed the holding of an illegal “referendum” on the “annexation” of the Kherson region to Russia;
- personally appealed to Moscow Patriarch Kirill with a request to include the local cathedral in the parish of the Russian Orthodox Church.
For the cleric’s defection to the side of the occupiers, they transferred to his cathedral the seized territories of Ukrtelecom and local businessmen in the central part of Kherson, the SBU notes. “At the same time, on September 30, 2022, the traitor was invited to the St. George’s Hall of the Kremlin to participate in the “ceremony of inclusion” of the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine into Russia.
During the liberation of Kherson, the collaborator, along with the Russian invaders, hid on the left bank of the southern region.
“According to operational data, there he became the secretary of the so-called Skadovsk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church,” the SBU notes.
Based on the evidence collected, SBU investigators informed him in absentia of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 2 Art. 111 (high treason);
- Part 1 Art. 111-2 (aiding the aggressor state).
Comprehensive measures are ongoing to bring the attacker to justice for the crimes committed, the intelligence service notes.
