The head of EU diplomacy said that the option under consideration is to impose restrictions on the Russian penitentiary system.

EU member states will propose the introduction of sanctions against the Kremlin over the death of Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian prison. This was said by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, PAP reports.

“The EU member states will certainly propose sanctions against those responsible,” the diplomat emphasized.

At the same time, he emphasized that the greatest responsibility lies with Vladimir Putin.

“But we can come down and cover (with restrictions) the Russian penitentiary system. However, let’s not forget who is really responsible for Navalny’s death,” said an EU government representative.

He also announced a proposal to name the EU sanctions system for human rights violations after Navalny.

Borrell added that the European Union should continue to support Ukraine.

EU foreign ministers will meet today in Brussels to discuss military support for Ukraine and the draft 13th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

Earlier, Borrell announced that Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Navalny, who died on February 16 in a camp in Russia’s Far North, would take part in the meeting.

As already written, the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny died in the VK-3 Polar Wolf in the village of Kharp in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Russian Federation.
