Japan and Ukraine aim to sign about 50 cooperation documents related to infrastructure projects. Agreements will be signed both at the government level and at the private sector level.
In Tokyo on Monday, February 19, the Japanese-Ukrainian conference on economic development and recovery, jointly held by the governments of both countries, began, Suspilne reported.
As noted by the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the purpose of the event is to promote dialogue between government officials and business sectors of both countries, to explore the potential of public-private cooperation for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s economy.
The conference was attended by Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal, as well as representatives of more than 100 Japanese and Ukrainian companies in the fields of agriculture, information technology and energy.
According to Japanese media reports, Japan and Ukraine in total intend to sign about 50 cooperation documents related to infrastructure projects. Agreements will be signed at both the government and private sector levels.
It is expected that the Japanese side will contribute to the demining of the Ukrainian territory and improve the humanitarian situation in the country, will stimulate the development of local agriculture, new types of production, in particular, the field of biotechnology , as well as IT. In addition, Japan will work to restore Ukraine’s energy and transportation infrastructure. Tokyo will also support Ukraine in fighting corruption and strengthening public administration.
It is also reported that the Japanese government, as part of supporting the restoration of Ukraine, intends to transfer the latest technologies in the field of telemedicine, smart agriculture, as well as modern technologies related to the production and use of renewable energy sources, in particular biofuels.
It was previously reported that Japan plans to attract the private sector to support Ukraine.
