The explosion, which happened in the immediate vicinity of the ship, damaged it, but the crew was not injured.
A UK-registered cargo ship with the flag of Belize was attacked near Yemen. The ship was damaged but returned to its previous course, British maritime security company Ambrey said.
It was noted that the attack happened in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden to the Arabian Sea.
The attack occurred while the ship was heading north while traveling from Khor Fakkan (United Arab Emirates) to Varna (Bulgaria).
The explosion that occurred in the immediate vicinity of the ship caused damage to it. It is known that the crew was not injured due to the incident and is safe.
“The privateer vessel slowed from ten to six knots and veered off course and then engaged the Djibouti Navy before returning to its previous course and speed,” Ambrey said in a statement.
The British registered ship is operating in Lebanon.
It was earlier reported that the US military carried out five strikes in areas of Yemen on Saturday in self-defense against Houthi militants.
It will be recalled that the United States intercepted a shipment of weapons from Iran to the Houthis, including 200 containers with various lethal equipment, including parts of medium-range ballistic missiles, explosives and anti-tank guided missile launcher.
