The goal of the congress declared by the Russian Foreign Ministry is “to overcome the internal split.” In fact, Russia wants to try to resolve the differences between the various terrorist factions fighting against Israel.
The inter-Palestinian meeting is expected to take place from February 29 to March 1-2. The proposal was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a conference of the Valdai Discussion Club.
In October, a Hamas delegation led by Abu Marzouk, a member of the group’s Politburo, visited Moscow. Before this, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office refused to recognize this organization as terrorist.
In Russia, the Hamas movement is not banned or recognized as terrorist, unlike many countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan, Israel and the European Union.
