Every day the invaders fired at least 60 aerial bombs at Ukrainian positions in the city. In the last 48 hours before the occupation, the enemy dropped 250 of these bombs on one specific area of Avdiivka. The Russians’ use of guided bombs allowed Russian forces to gain air superiority in the area. This is stated in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Since the beginning of 2023, Russian forces have gradually increased the use of KABs throughout the theater of operations. However, the massive use of these weapons in Avdievka was the first time that the enemy dropped these bombs in large quantities to provide close air support for infantry.
ISW noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were unable to resist the Russians in the airspace around Avdiivka. And the enemy could take advantage of this temporary localized advantage in the air to speed up the attack on the city.
Let us remind you that US President Joe Biden said that Ukrainian Armed Forces units were forced to leave Avdiivka after they had to ration ammunition due to a reduction in supplies due to the inaction of Congress. This is what led to Russia’s first notable successes over the past few months.
