The Kremlin wants to restore political dominance in Eastern and Central Europe in the near future.
The confrontation between Western countries and the Russian Federation could last for decades. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this on Saturday, February 17, during the Munich Security Conference, writes Bild.
He noted that a significant event was the killing of Alexei Navalny in a Russian colony, which “confirmed our worst fears about Russia.”
The minister stressed that the West should be preparing for a long-term conflict with the Russian Federation, because the Kremlin wants to continue its dominance in Eastern and Central Europe.
“Unfortunately, we will have to live with the lines dividing Europe for decades to come: a free and democratic Europe on one side, an authoritarian and belligerent Russia on the other. Effective deterrence is our life insurance, Pistorius said.
The head of the Ministry of Defense called on European countries to find partners in other parts of the world, including African countries.
“Closer cooperation means we get down to earth. That’s what I mean by getting out of our comfort zone,” Pistorius said.
Earlier, the head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, said that the possibility of a Russian attack on a NATO member country cannot be ruled out.
