Israel sent negotiators to Cairo to negotiate a truce with Hamas, but the negotiations stalled.
Israel halted talks with Hamas leaders, which took place in Egyptian Cairo through the mediation of Qatar. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this on Saturday, February 17, Reuters wrote.
He stressed that the demands of the militants have been “in vain.”
The head of government noted that Israeli representatives tried to achieve a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of more than 100 Israeli hostages held in Hamas-controlled territory, but negotiations stalled.
“We have received nothing but ridiculous demands from Hamas. These demands include ending the war and leaving Hamas alone, the release of ‘thousands of murderers’ from Israeli prisons and there are still requests for the holy place in Jerusalem, known as the Temple Mount in Judaism and the Noble Sanctuary in Islam.
Israeli representatives in Cairo sat and listened, and not a millimeter of change. There hasn’t been a nanometer of change,” Netanyahu said.
He added that as long as there is no movement on the list of demands, the negotiators have no reason to return to Egypt.
We remind you that the Israeli military has completed the liquidation of the Hamas “military structure” in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
