Efforts to provide emergency foreign aid to US allies have been stalled in Congress for months.
US President Joe Biden believes that the loss of Avdiivka, which Ukrainian troops were forced to abandon after months of grueling fighting, is partly due to American lawmakers not being able to approve providing emergency aid to Ukraine. This was said on Saturday, February 17, in a statement published on the White House website.
“Ukraine was forced to withdraw from Avdiivka after its military was forced to ration ammunition due to dwindling supplies as a result of congressional inaction, leading to Russia’s first notable gains in months,” said Biden.
He noted the urgent need for Congress to pass a bill on additional national security funding to replenish Ukrainian forces.
In order to avoid a cordon and save military lives, the command of the Defense Forces decided to withdraw the units from Avdievka and move to the defense on more advantageous lines.
Let’s remember that on Thursday, Johnson ended the work week of the House of Representatives early and announced an almost two-week break without considering the bill to help allies.
As you know, on February 13, the US Senate supported a package that provides more than $60 billion for Ukraine – mainly military aid. But the Senate’s decision to appropriate the money is not enough – the bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.
