In total, the Defense Forces repelled 34 Russian attacks in five directions. Almost everywhere the Russians attack with air support, but the Ukrainian defenders staunchly hold the line. This is stated in the evening meeting of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 17.
Most of the enemy attacks were repelled in the Maryinsky direction. At Georgievka, Pobeda and Novomikhailovka, the Russians tried to break through the Ukrainian defense 21 times. And 14 enemy attacks were repulsed at Lastochkino in the Avdeevsky direction.
The Russians launched assaults on the Liman and Bakhmut directions seven times in order to improve their tactical position. The Defense Forces also repelled Russian assaults in the Novopavlovsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson directions.
The Ukrainian military not only defended itself, but also inflicted significant losses on the enemy. Thus, the Air Force today struck 14 areas where personnel were concentrated and three enemy anti-aircraft missile systems. And the missile forces struck the enemy’s command post, four artillery weapons, four ammunition depots and an electronic warfare station.
Let us recall that on February 17, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, said that the Defense Forces left the city to avoid encirclement by the enemy. President Volodymyr Zelensky said leaving the city was a logical and professional decision for the sake of military lives.
