The United States of America will transfer half a million dollars of Russian assets to Ukraine through Estonia. The corresponding international agreement between the United States and Estonia was signed on February 17 in Munich on the sidelines of a security conference. This was stated by Deputy US Attorney General Lisa Monaco, reports “Public”.
This action is the first of its kind and is the result of the work of the KleptoCapture task force, which works to enforce sanctions and export restrictions imposed in response to Russian aggression and to support Ukraine. Our agreement will help the people in Ukraine who continue to courageously resist the Russian aggressor,” she said.
According to the Deputy Prosecutor General, the KleptoCapture group confiscated money from an illegal network that was trying to illegally export high-precision equipment from the United States to the Russian Federation, which can be used in the development of dangerous weapons and in the field of nuclear weapons.
This will be the first transfer of Russian confiscated assets through a third country.
Let us recall that on February 12, the Council of the European Union approved a resolution opening the way to making a decision on the use of profits from Russia’s frozen assets for Ukraine.
In total, about 260 billion euros of assets of the Central Bank of Russia were immobilized in the form of securities and cash in the jurisdictions of the G7 countries, the EU and Australia. Moreover, more than two thirds of them are immobilized in the European Union.
