We need to quickly find money to quickly deliver ammunition to Ukraine, the Czech President said.
Representatives of the Czech Republic discovered 800 thousand artillery shells of 155 mm and 122 mm caliber in third countries. They may travel to Ukraine “in the coming weeks.” This statement was made by Czech President Petr Pavel at the Munich Conference on Saturday, February 17.
“So far we have found half a million shells of 155 caliber, another 300 thousand shells of 122 caliber, which we can deliver in a few weeks if we find funds quickly,” said Peter Pavel.
Pavel clarified that the Czech Republic is supported in this activity by Denmark, the Netherlands and Canada. They also reached out to partners from the United States, Germany, Sweden and other countries that could contribute to these efforts.
The Czech President added that the Czech Republic is currently looking for weapons and equipment around the world, and is also working with NATO partners in this direction.
“The purpose of this activity is to maximize the strengthening of the Ukrainian defense, so that they can preserve their human resources, cause as much depletion of Russian forces as possible, and so that they (the Ukrainians – ed.) held the positions they have now,” concluded the Czech President.
Let’s recall that at the beginning of May 2023, the EU Council approved a decision on the supply of shells and missiles to Ukraine. It is planned that European countries will provide Ukraine with 1 million shells by March 2024.
But it is already known that the EU countries will not be able to fully implement this plan. According to Bloomberg, the EU will provide Ukraine with 600,000 rounds of ammunition in March.
And the previous day, the media reported that the three countries were blocking the decision on the joint purchase of shells outside the EU.
