The commander of the Tavria OSUV, Alexander Tarnavsky, spoke about the situation in the Avdeevsky direction.

Ukrainian defenders are maneuvering through destroyed positions at Avdiivka and consolidating into new defense lines. However, some of the soldiers were captured by the Russians. This was said by the commander of the Tavria OSUV, Alexander Tarnavsky, on his Telegram channel on Friday, February 16.

“Heavy fighting continues inside the city of Avdievka. The enemy continues to launch artillery shelling and massive bomb attacks, almost wiping the city to the ground,” the statement said.

The military man emphasized that the enemy was throwing away all his attack reserves, moving them in another direction, and trying to push our defenses. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continued to hold off the Russian invaders, who numerically outnumbered them in personnel, artillery and aviation.

Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian defenders have repelled more than 30 Russian attacks in the Avdeevka area. The aggressor carried out 20 airstrikes and more than one and a half hundred artillery attacks.

He also said that Ukrainian soldiers were maneuvering from destroyed positions and gaining a foothold on new defense lines.

“I remember that the priority was to preserve the lives of our soldiers. Therefore, if necessary, they retreated to new positions. Unfortunately, during one of these exits, some of our soldiers was caught,” the commander wrote.

He added that Ukraine will fight for the release of every soldier.

Tarnavsky said that the evacuation of the wounded was complicated by continuous shelling, but was underway. The necessary reserves are transferred to our defenders.

According to him, there is now a fire at the Avdeevka coke plant, where Russian terrorists, as a result of shelling, set fire to a tank with naphthalene residues and bitumen tar in the warehouse.

Tarnavsky explained that in order to understand the scale of the enemy’s offensive, you need to know that the lion’s share of the losses of the invaders in the direction of Tauride occurred exactly at Avdeevka. In particular, since the beginning of the year, the losses of the invaders in this direction amounted to 20,018 people, 199 tanks and 481 armored combat vehicles (January 1 – February 15, 2024).

The Avdeevka defensive operation continues, the enemy is paying a high price.

We previously wrote that the Russian army has lost 18 thousand people in the Tavria OSUL zone since the beginning of 2024.
