Ukraine has not officially announced the date of receipt of the F-16. The fighters will appear when the Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready to use them effectively.
At the 19th meeting of the contact group on the defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format, the issue of the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine was hardly discussed, since all the necessary decisions had already been made. The head of the press and information department of the Ministry of Defense, Illarion Pavlyuk, said this in a telethon on Thursday, February 15.
“With the F-16, everything is very simple, all decisions have already been made. There is nothing left in the discussion stage. Decisions have been made, we are moving according to plan. We have an understanding of the terms, we have an understanding on what needs to be done within these deadlines. This in terms of pilot training, infrastructure preparation, engineers, etc. Once all these elements are completed, the F-16s will appear in Ukraine,” Pavlyuk said.
He noted that Ukraine has not officially announced the date of receipt of the aircraft.
“As soon as we know the exact date, we will not tell anyone about it under any circumstances. After all, the enemy is guided, among other things, by information from open sources. Therefore, everything is fine on the F-16s. We all hope that the F-16s will be in Ukraine as soon as possible. But we all understand that they should appear exactly when we are ready to effectively use and serve them, “Pavlyuk explained .
It was previously reported that Denmark will provide Ukraine with 19 F-16 fighters and the first six of them by the end of 2023, but the deadlines have changed. In total, the country now has 44 such aircraft.
The Netherlands also announced that it will provide Ukraine with 42 F-16 fighters. They will be transferred after the training of Ukrainian pilots and engineers.
In addition, Ukraine may receive F-16 aircraft from Norway and Belgium.
