The restoration of these weapons is taking place on the territory of one of the military units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Logistics Forces Command. Among the technologies used by repair specialists in their line of work is welding titanium surfaces of damaged artillery systems. The command of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
As you know, the Ukrainian military actively uses M777 howitzers at the front. These weapons destroy the enemy’s forward command posts, warehouses with ammunition and fuel and lubricants, accumulations of enemy equipment and artillery batteries of the invaders.
This howitzer has a caliber of 155 mm, among its features is extremely high accuracy and firing efficiency. This weapon has two types of projectiles – conventional and rocket. Both types are in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
With conventional M795 projectiles, it can fire at a distance of up to 24.7 km, and with special M549 projectiles it can hit targets in about 30. With high-precision M982 Excalibur projectiles, it can hit a target at a distance of 40 km. After a minute, the howitzer can fire up to five shots.
Let us remind you that two damaged Ukrainian M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems were sent for repairs to the United States of America. One of these MLRS is missing its front wheel, and the other installation is crippled by debris. This was the first documented evidence of damage, but not destruction, of HIMARS in the war in Ukraine.
