Irina Mudra suggests that international partners are likely to transfer funds to cover the budget, social payments and restoration.
The European Council recently adopted a resolution regulating the practice of security deposits, following the example of Euroclear, which owns the assets and reserves of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. This decision brings Ukraine closer to receiving surplus income, but it is not the last step. This is what Deputy Minister of Justice Irina Mudra said in the telethon Unifying news.
“Negotiations began at “step No. 2” – the direction of surplus income in Ukraine. The money will go through the mechanism of the Facility of Ukraine, and our principled position is that it should be additional funds, and not part of the already agreed. Aid to the EU, “he said.
The official suggests that the international partners are likely to “not agree on the use of these revenues for the defense sector, but direct them to cover the budget, social payments, and reconstruction projects .”
“The team of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance are trying to speed up the processes of our European partners, and each of our teams is working in its own direction, legal, financial. And this is our visit to the Minister of Justice at the end of January in Brussels is dedicated to,” explains Mudra.
According to him, Belgium is interested in submitting a decision on “step No. 2” for the agreement of the EU member states before the end of its EU presidency until the end of June 2024.
Let’s remember that last year the European Commission said that Ukraine will receive income from Russian properties. We are talking about billions of euros, said EU President Ursula von der Leyen.
It was also learned that Belgium would finance Ukraine at Russia’s expense. We are talking about a fund of 1.7 billion euros. It was filled from the taxation of Russian assets that were frozen in the country.
