Hundreds of refugees
For several weeks, the strategic city of Eastern Ukraine, Serodonetsk, has been the scene of violent clashes between the Ukrainian army and “Moscow troops, as well as their pro-Russian separatist allies.” According to the Ukrainian authorities, several hundred people are currently taking refuge in a large nitrogen chemical plant, which, according to them, is constantly bombed.
On a smaller scale, this situation is reminiscent of what existed in the large port city of Mariupol, Mariupol, which fell to Russia after a siege in May. Hundreds of civilians took refuge in Azovstal underground galleries before appearing next to Ukrainian fighter jets in extremely difficult conditions as the bombs dropped incessantly.
Russia has repeatedly said it would set up humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians, but several agreements failed, with Moscow and Ki accusing each other of violating them.
