The defendant tried to find out the approximate number of personnel and military equipment of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces moving by train in the direction of the eastern front.
In the Kirovograd region, a Russian informant was detained, having set up an “observation point” for the trains of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in his own garage. The SBU reported this on February 12.
It was noted that the person involved was trying to find out the approximate number of personnel and military equipment of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces moving by train to the eastern front. The enemy is most interested in information about the movement of Ukrainian heavy weapons on the front line, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery systems.
To monitor the trains of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the defendant built an “observation post” in his own garage, located near the railway station. In addition, he toured the area and secretly recorded the locations of Ukrainian troops under the guise of an ordinary citizen on foot.
To hide himself, the attacker constantly changes the routes of his reconnaissance forays, and sends the information received to the aggressor from different geolocations. However, this did not help him. SBU officers exposed the attacker and locked him up in his own home.
The enemy informant is a local resident who has lived in Russia for about 20 years. Before the start of a large-scale invasion, he went to Ukraine to sell all his property here and return to the aggressor country. In May 2023, when the man was still in the Kirovograd region, a Russian administrator contacted him and offered cooperation in favor of the invaders. If the enemy’s activities were completed, the conquerors promised their henchmen to “evacuate” Russian territory.
During searches of the defendant’s home, mobile phones and computer equipment with evidence of criminal activity were confiscated; documents confirming the facts of his residence and business activities in the territory of the Russian Federation.
While the defendant is in custody, he faces up to 12 years in prison.
We remind you that the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian informant in the Donetsk region, who got a job as a salesperson near the station to spy on the trains of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was also reported that a traitor who had been spying on the Third Assault Brigade was exposed in Kyiv.
